In San Francisco, Friends Of The Urban Forest (FUF) has spent the past three decades promoting the benefits of greening the city with trees in order to create urban forests for all to enjoy.
FUF is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a free Block Party on Saturday, 17 September 2011 (1-4PM PST) at its headquarters in the Presidio (1007 General Kennedy Avenue). The organization began in 1981 with a Neighborhood Tree Planting of 50 trees in Noe Valley.[1. Friends Of The Urban Forest, “TREEscapes,” Summer 2011.] It currently plants approximately 1,200 trees annually.[2. Ibid.]
The 30th Anniversary Block Party will include food trucks, Anchor Steam beer, massages, a bounce house, music, and other fun activities. Please RSVP to FUF Membership Director Greg Harrell-Edge greg[at]fuf.net or (415) 268-0785.

UPDATE: Just realized the date was wrong. Fixed. Hopefully someone noticed and decided to double-check?

Blood Donor Day on 8 July 2011 marks the 35th time that News10 and BloodSource have partnered to promote awareness for blood donations (either occasion or regular).
Visit any local BloodSource center or the following blood drives (News10, 400 Broadway; Roseville Sports Center, 1545 Pleasant Grove Boulevard; and Barbara Wackford Aquatic Center, 9014 Bruceville Road) from 6AM to 7PM to receive a complimentary State Fair ticket, coupon for a FREE pint of Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream, T-Shirt (FYI: last year’s T-Shirt was not attractive), and other gifts.
Unfortunately, I donated blood last month so I will not be able to participate in News10 Blood Donor Day this year; but having participated the past two years at News10, I can say that organizers and supporters are very energetic at the event and participants are very enthusiastic about donating.
If you can, please participate at the blood drive.
